Crystal Kominski-1A note from Crystal Kominski, Director of Strategic Partnerships

I’m fresh off my trip to Baltimore for 2024 AHIP Medicare, Medicaid, Duals and Commercial Markets Forum. I can’t tell you how excited I am after an invigorating few days of learning and networking. I heard a great deal at this year’s event, so I wanted to share some of my key takeaways with you!

First of all, I want to thank everyone I met with at the show. It was a great opportunity to catch up with old friends and meet new faces. And for anyone whom I didn’t have a chance to touch base with, please send me a message, and let’s chat!

Three Key Takeaways

As you can imagine, AMC Health has a lot to share on the healthcare front. I was listening intently and heard a few themes loud and clear. Of the many amazing talk tracks, Health Equity was on the forefront of many people’s minds.

I can’t stress the importance of equity in healthcare enough. But it wasn’t just the fact that there needs to be an increased focus on equity that drew my attention. Rather, it was how many of the speakers doubled down on the importance of equity not as a program, but rather a transformation to all of healthcare.

Breaking Down Barriers for Equity

Equity needs to be intertwined with everything we do. It should be integrated with our approach to quality measures. I loved hearing the different stories about how improving business operations is about more than dollars and cents. There are real people attached to the end of the quality equation.

That takes me to my next point: Community. The more we as an industry can plug into those who we serve, the better we will be able to help. From neighborhood centers to community building, the care we offer is about solving problems related to health.

Building Communities One Person at a Time

We have an opportunity to understand the populations we work with to move beyond numbers.

If we get involved in the community, we increase equity which will improve quality and, in the end, give us a better understanding of the severity of the issues our members are facing.

When we get involved in the community, we have a better understanding of the severity and challenges the members are facing. This allows us to tailor our approach of providing care to meet the members' individual needs.

Overall, this year’s show was an excellent opportunity to learn from those on the frontlines of change. Transformation in healthcare comes from taking the time to level set expectations and elevate opportunities for everyone.

Challenge for the Upcoming Months

As we quickly move through 2024, I challenge you to take a new look at equity, quality, and community. These three themes may seem separate, but they work in tandem to create a better healthcare ecosystem where you can provide transformative health equity, quality, and community for everyone.
